Funding will install a unique geothermal heat pump system to capture mine waste waters under Butte, Montana to heat campus buildings.
 
Cartersville Fish Passage

Amount:  $3,000,000
Cartersville Fish Passage (Forsyth, MT)
This project is the final phase in opening the upper reaches of the Yellowstone River and its tributaries to pallid sturgeon and other fish species. Funding will be used to replace a diversion dam and create fish passage structures on the Tongue River.
 
Center for Zero Emissions Research Technology (ZERT)

Amount:  $3,000,000
Montana State University (Bozeman, MT)
Funding will allow ZERT to continue research on the basic science and methods of carbon capture to reduce emissions from fossil fuels sources.
 
City of Glendive Flood Plain Studies

Amount:  $900,000
City of Glendive (Glendive, MT)
Funding will be used to address a road and bridge replacement that puts the city at risk of flooding.
 
Clark Fork River Revitalization

Amount:  $637,000
City of Missoula (Missoula, MT)
Funding will help revitalize the Clark Fork River to remediate old industrial sites, improve deteriorating river banks and deficiencies in existing levees, restore native riparian vegetation to improve water quality, and create river access for the public.

Fort Peck/Dry Prairie Water System (Poplar, MT)
Funding will be used to develop drinking water infrastructure on the Fort Peck Reservation and surrounding areas.
 
Fort Peck Cabin Conveyance

Fort Peck Cabin Conveyance (Valley County, MT)
Funding will continue assessments, surveys and appraisals to convey Army Corps of Engineers cabin sites around Fort Peck Reservoir.
 
Hi-Temperature Electrochemistry Center (Hi-Tec)

Amount:  $5,000,000
Montana State University (Bozeman, MT)
Hi-Tec seeks to improve fuel cell design to increase performance and reliability.
 
Lower Yellowstone Project

Amount:  $18,000,000
Lower Yellowstone Project (Intake, MT)
Funding will be used to complete an environmental assessment and prepare for diversion dam replacement to provide upstream spawning habitat for the pallid sturgeon and improve water deliverability to irrigators.
 
Montana Algal Biodiesel Initiative

This initiative will develop methods to use algae to capture carbon from fossil fuel sources and use it to make advanced biofuels.
 
Montana Bio-Energy Innovation and Testing Center

Funding will be used to conduct research, product development, and commercialization for biofuels and automotive technologies ande education and training related to the use of biodiesel.

The rural water program provides critical federal matching funds to rural water and wastewater systems in Montana.
 
Renewable Biofuels from Biomass

This research project will use biomass waste products to produce renewable oil that can be refined into a broad range of products and chemicals.
 
Renewable Resources Energy Center

Funding will help establish Montana State University Billings as a center for clean energy research, job training, and information.
 
Rocky Boy's/North Central Regional Water Authority

Funding will be used to develop critical water infrastructure on the Rocky Boy's Reservation and throughout North Central Montana.
 
Saint Mary's Diversion and Canal Rehabilitation

Funding will complete environmental review and preparation of design for the rehabilitation of Saint Mary's canal and diversion dam to improve fish passage and deliver water for municipalities, wildlife, and irrigation.
 
Sustainable Biogenic Coalbed Methane for Energy and Environment

This project will work to enhance microbial production of coal bed methane which has the potential to extend the life of coalbed methane wells indefinitely by transforming coalbed methane into a sustainable resource.

Funding will develop new and innovative approaches to cleaning up Department of Energy nuclear waste sites through efficient and cost effective means.
 
Wind Turbine Development

Funding will be used to improve the design and costs of wind turbine blades by making turbines more resistant to damage, reducing cost, and increasing efficiency.
