Tester Announces $1.44 Billion Expansion Loan for Montana’s Calumet Refinery in Great Falls
Funding will allow Montana Renewables, a Calumet subsidiary, to create good-paying jobs and expand energy production in Cascade County
Continuing his work to support domestic energy production and create good-paying Montana jobs, U.S. Senator Jon Tester announced today he has secured a loan guarantee of up to $1.44 billion from the Department of Energy for Montana Renewables to grow operations at the Calumet Montana Refinery in Great Falls. Funding comes from Tester’s Inflation Reduction Act and will help finance the expansion of a renewable fuels facility that will utilize vegetable oils, fats, and greases to produce sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, and renewable naphtha.
“Montana has a long, proud history of powering the nation—and I believe that we can continue to lead the way in energy production,” said Tester. “That’s why I was proud to go to bat for this loan so the hard-working folks in Great Falls can continue to power the nation, and I look forward to seeing energy production in Montana continue to grow and thrive for years to come.”
The targeted Inflation Reduction Act is the largest U.S. debt reduction in more than a decade. The legislation lowers costs for seniors, families, working Montanans, and small businesses, as well as reduces health care costs and unleashes American energy to create good-paying Montana jobs.
