Tester Statement on Nomination of Montana’s Martha Williams to Lead U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement following the nomination of Montana’s Martha Williams to be Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service:

“Montana’s landscapes and outdoor economy depend on our wildlife being managed fairly and responsibly according to the best possible science, which is why I am excited to see Martha Williams has been nominated to serve as Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Martha has spent her entire career standing up for our public lands and has proven herself to be a thoughtful, nonpartisan steward who works collaboratively with folks on the ground to make positive change. I am looking forward to meeting with Martha and to working with her protect wildlife and Montana jobs for generations to come.”

Williams currently serves as the Principal Deputy Director at Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and she served as Director of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks from 2017-2021. Previously Williams served as a professor at the Alexander Blewitt III School of Law at the University of Montana, where she also earned her JD.
