Tester Statement on Formal Nomination of Tracy Stone-Manning to Lead Bureau of Land Management

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement on the announcement that President Biden has nominated Tracy Stone-Manning to be the Director of the Bureau of Land Management:

“Tracy Stone-Manning is a tireless public lands champion with a lifetime of experience advocating for the spaces that drive Montana’s economy and make our state the Last Best Place. She understands the complex issues facing the Bureau, and will bring some Montana commonsense to an agency that is in dire need of it. Her nomination is great news for Montana, and for all Americans who value our public lands and the thousands of good-paying jobs that depend on their responsible stewardship.”

Tester has long fought against the politicization and conflicts of interest at the Bureau of Land Management under its previous head William Perry Pendley, who advocated for the selling off of America’s public lands and who served illegally as acting head of the Bureau even after he was ordered removed by a federal judge.

Tracy Stone-Manning is a Senior Advisor at the National Wildlife Federation based in Montana, and former Chief of Staff to Governor Steve Bullock. She previously served as a senior aide to Senator Tester.
