Tester Brings Home More Than $1 Million for Havre Head Start Program

Grant will promote school readiness for young children, provide resources to low income families

U.S. Senator Jon Tester announced today that the Havre Head Start program will receive $1,095,950 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to continue their work providing early education and child care services for families in the community.

“Havre’s Head Start Program provides children and their families with the resources they need to succeed,” Tester said. “As a former elementary school teacher, I know firsthand the difference Head Start makes in these kids’ lives, and this funding will help them continue to pave the way for the next generation.”

The funding comes from the Administration for Children & Families, which oversees Head Start programs across Montana. Havre’s Head Start program offers preschool and infant care options for parents who need daycare for their children, information for young families on pregnancy and fetal development, and school readiness material to make sure Montana kids are prepared for kindergarten.

Tester has been an unwavering advocate for Head Start in Montana. Earlier this year, he secured millions for Head Start Programs in Butte, Helena, Billings, Bozeman, Ravalli, and Eastern and Central Montana. Through his role on the Senate Appropriations Committee, he worked to secure more than $10 billion for Head Start this year in the US.
