Tester Secures Nearly $900,000 to Bolster Missoula Affordable Housing

$882,791 in Community Development Block Grants, HOME Grants awarded to Missoula County

U.S. Senator Jon Tester announced today that the City of Missoula will receive two grants totaling nearly $900,000 to build and repair housing for low income Montanans.

The $882,791 in funding—which is provided by the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program and the HOME program—is allocated to local governments for affordable housing development, community development, and expansion of economic opportunities for low-to-moderate income families.

“Everyone in Montana deserves to have a place that they can call home,” Tester said. “These grants will help Missoula build and maintain safe, affordable housing so folks don’t have to break the bank to put a roof over their families’ heads.”

The CDBG program is providing $529,166 to help Missoula construct and restore housing, provide suitable living environments, and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income families. The remaining $353,625 is supplied by the HOME program to create and maintain low and very low income family housing. Both grants are funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Tester is a strong advocate for expanding affordable housing opportunities in Montana. Through his position on the Senate Appropriations Committee, he played a key role in negotiating a bipartisan budget deal that made substantial investments into affordable housing initiatives including the HOME and CDBG programs. Earlier this year he helped secure more than $4 million for Public Housing Authorities across Montana and more than $26 million for affordable housing in Indian Country.
