President Trump Signs Tester's Bill to Cut Regulation and Create Jobs

Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act is Senator’s 14th Law this Congress

(U.S. Senate) – President Donald Trump today signed U.S. Senator Jon Tester’s major reform bill to reduce government regulation for Montana’s community banks and credit unions, marking his 14th bill signed into law this Congress.

Tester’s Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act cuts red tape for local lenders while protecting consumers from Wall Street’s risky behavior.

“This is an important day for Main Streets across Montana and rural America,” said Tester, Montana’s only member of the Banking Committee. “Our landmark legislation tosses out harmful regulations, so local lenders can provide startup capital to entrepreneurs and mortgages to first time homebuyers. Today marks years of relentless negotiating, collaboration and compromise. I’m proud to fight for Montana in the United States Senate, and I’ll keep fighting to ensure our state’s economy is strong.”

Tester negotiated this legislation with Senate Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Senators Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), and Mark Warner (D-Va.).

Tester’s legislation has been hailed as a “rare bipartisan agreement” that will “strengthen economic growth, job creation, and consumer protection” proving that “old-fashioned legislating is not dead.”

Building on Tester’s solid track record of getting things done in Washington, Congress yesterday passed Tester’s VA MISSION Act, a historic bill to reform the VA’s community care program and strengthen health care for veterans across America.
