Tester Pushes to Lower Prescription Drug Prices

Senator: Montanans Shouldn’t Be Forced to Break the Bank to Afford Their Medication

(U.S. Senate)-U.S. Senator Jon Tester issued the following statement after President Trump unveiled his prescription drug plan:

“Prescription drug prices are far too high and Montanans shouldn’t be forced to break the bank to afford their medication. I’m pushing real solutions that will protect Montanans from another painful round of prescription drug price hikes. I will work with anyone to hold pharmaceutical companies and middle-men accountable so we can lower drug costs for families across our state.”

Tester is pushing numerous bills through Congress to lower the cost of prescription drugs:

  • CREATES Act forces drug makers to turn over their samples to generic drug makers so cheaper versions of the medication get to market more quickly.
  • Improving Transparency and Accuracy in Medicare Part D Drug Spending Act prevents Pharmacy Benefit Managers, or middle-men, from clawing back fees on prescription drug claims.
  • C-THRU Act forces Pharmacy Benefit Managers to disclose information on their pricing agreements with drug companies, insurance companies, and pharmacies so Montanans can know where exactly their money is going.
  • SPIKE Act requires drug companies to disclose publicly their reasoning for increasing prescription drug prices.

Tester voted for legislation earlier this year to close the Medicare Part D donut hole a year early, saving Montanans millions of dollars in prescription drug costs.
