(U.S. Senate)–U.S. Senator Jon Tester, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today issued the following statement after President Trump announced that Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly would be leaving his post to become White House Chief of Staff:

“The President needs to quickly nominate a strong and qualified leader who will secure our borders, ensure the safety of the American people, and tackle the rising tide of dangerous drugs coming into our country. We need stability in this critical national security agency and the President must choose someone who understands the unique challenges of our borders by land, sea and air.”
