Tester Fights Back Against Montana Meth Epidemic

Tester Invites Trump Administration to Work Together to Improve and Expand Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment in Montana

(Big Sandy, Mont.) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester is inviting the Trump Administration to work with him and come up with solutions to address the rising methamphetamine problem across Montana.

“We can make real progress when Congress and the White House work together on substance abuse issues,” Tester wrote. “I look forward to working with you to improve enforcement, prevention, and treatment for methamphetamine abuse.”

In Montana, the rate of hospital admissions due to methamphetamine overdoses is above the national average and has more than doubled in recent years.

“This is an acute and deepening problem that is seriously impacting our communities,” Tester added. “Montana hospitals and doctors are treating growing numbers of babies born addicted to methamphetamine.”

Tester’s letter to the Administration can be found HERE. It was sent in response to a request from the Trump Administration, which can be found HERE.

Last Congress, Tester sponsored and helped pass the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act to increase opioid abuse prevention and treatment.

Last year, Tester urged the Pentagon to increase resources to combat the rise of drug trafficking in eastern Montana.

In 2014, Tester held a Congressional field hearing to look at law enforcement needs of eastern Montana during the Bakken oil boom.
