Tester to Trump: Don’t Put Montana Seniors at Risk

Senator Urges President to Allow Medicare Agency to Communicate with Congress

(U.S. Senate) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester is calling on President Trump to remove his service-crippling order barring federal agencies, especially the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), from communicating with members of Congress.

Tester’s eight Montana offices routinely help Montana seniors receive their Medicare benefits and address any problems that arise. Since the President’s controversial order, Tester and his staff have been unable to get answers from CMS on behalf of Montana seniors who find the federal government difficult to navigate.

“I have sought assistance from CMS on behalf of Montana’s seniors, but have been informed that CMS will not respond to inquiries from Members of Congress,” Tester wrote. “Seniors have earned their Medicare benefits through a lifetime of hard work, and without the vital services that Medicare provides their health is at risk. Without communication between the executive and legislative branches the federal government cannot work for its citizens.”

“The foundation of a strong democracy rests in the government’s responsiveness to the needs of its people,” Tester added.
