Tester Backs Trump’s Top National Security Officials

Senator Joins Bipartisan Confirmation of New Defense and Homeland Security Secretaries

(U.S. Senate)-United States Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after voting with Democrats and Republicans to confirm General James Mattis as Defense Secretary and General John Kelly as Homeland Security Secretary:

“As generals, Secretary Mattis and Secretary Kelly have spent their lives serving our country and defending our freedoms. They both are committed to strengthening our national security and keeping Americans safe. I will be working very closely with them to better secure our borders, fight terrorism abroad, and ensure our troops and their families have the resources they need to continue to protect Montana and our nation.”

Tester met with Kelly earlier this month to discuss northern border security and protecting civil liberties, and he secured a commitment from Kelly to visit Montana this year.
