After Orlando Attack Tester Calls on Senate to Bolster National Security

(U.S. Senate)-Following the horrific and deadly attack in Orlando, Senator Jon Tester has renewed his call for the strengthening of America’s national security.

“We cannot continue to be crippled by inaction. The Senate needs to come together to strengthen our national security,” Tester said. “After attacks like Orlando we hear folks say never again, but actions really do speak louder than words. It’s time we work together to try and prevent these senseless acts of terror and violence.”

As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, Tester has routinely held the administration accountable for strengthening American security and has also pushed for legislation that would keep Montana families safe and protect their freedoms.

Tester is pushing to ensure law enforcement officials have the tools they need to prevent suspected terrorists from acquiring guns.

Tester worked to address potential vulnerabilities in the Visa Waiver Program. Under Tester’s bill, travelers now need to acquire a visa before entering the U.S. if they have traveled to Iraq or Syria within the past five years.

Recently, Tester pushed for the Transportation Security Administration to install full body scanners in smaller airports across the country.

Tester demanded the Obama Administration boost security along the northern border. Tester has brought Department of Homeland Security officials to Montana to see first-hand the northern border and the vulnerabilities that need to be addressed.

Additionally, Tester is leading the effort to crack down on insider threats by working to reform the security clearance process so folks who want to harm the U.S. don’t have access to our nation’s most sensitive information and locations.
