Tester meets with Chairman Stafne from Fort Peck Tribes

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester on Wednesday met with Fort Peck Chairman A.T. “Rusty” Stafne to discuss the Fort Peck Water Project, support for corrections facilities in Indian Country and gaming regulations.

Chairman Stafne traveled to Washington D.C. to testify before Tester’s Senate Indian Affairs Committee. He used the occasion to make sure Montana’s senior Senator was up to date on the latest at Fort Peck and around Indian Country.

“As Chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, it’s more crucial than ever that I know what’s going on in Indian Country,” Tester said. “Rusty and I had a good conversation, and he contributed a lot to my hearing about how we can improve the quality of life in Montana and across Indian Country.”

Stafne has been the Chairman of the Fort Peck Tribes since 2013. Tester took over the Senate Indian Affairs Committee earlier this year and focused on ways to improve education and create more jobs in Indian Country.
