Missoula native nominated by Tester, Baucus accepted to U.S. Air Force Academy

Senators congratulate Kerr for commitment to Montana and nation

(U.S. SENATE) – A Missoula high school student nominated by Senators Jon Tester and Max Baucus has been accepted to the prestigious U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Tawnie Kerr, 18, is a gifted athlete and honors student. She also hopes to serve as a role model for other young women who want to pursue careers in the military.

“Montanans take pride in our state’s long and unbroken history of military service, and I’m pleased Tawnie has chosen to join in that tradition,” said Tester, a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee. “All Montanans are proud of her and her family for their commitment to putting country first.”

“A world-class work ethic and commitment to public service puts Tawnie in a class of her own. It’s great news that Tawnie will be joining the inspiring tradition of Montanans who have attended our nation’s top military academies and gone on to serve their communities nobly,” said Baucus.

Tester and Baucus each nominated over 30 Montana students to the nation’s military service academies based on their academic achievement, leadership, community service and participation in extracurricular activities.

Montanans interested in applying for a military academy nomination in the future can find out how at Tester’s or Baucus’s websites.
