Tester hails creation of Foy’s Community Forest

(BOZEMAN, Mont.) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement in response to news that Flathead County and Foy’s-to-Blacktail Trails secured 170 acres of forest near Kalispell to create Foy’s Community Forest:

“Foy’s Community Forest will give folks in the Flathead more opportunities to enjoy and learn about our treasured outdoor heritage. This responsible investment in Montana’s forests strengthens our economy and ensures that folks can enjoy these trails for generations to come.”

The 170-acre Foy’s Community Forest is adjacent to Flathead County-owned Herron Park and is the only public access to the 7,500 acres of Plum Creek and Stoltze commercial timber land. The forest will provide educational opportunities for local schools.

Tester wrote a letter in support of the project to the Montana State Forester earlier this year.

The Community Forest and Open Space Conservation initiative of the U.S. Forest Service provides grants to establish community forests with a focus on economic and environmental benefits, education, forest stewardship and recreation opportunities.
