Tester supports Montana tourism jobs

Senator joins bipartisan Travel and Tourism Caucus

(BIG SANDY, Mont.) – Senator Jon Tester is backing a bipartisan effort to strengthen Montana's tourism industry and create more jobs in the Big Sky State.

Tester is joining the bipartisan Senate Travel & Tourism Caucus, which promotes common-sense strategies that create tourism jobs.

Led by Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, tourism is one of Montana’s largest employers, creating tens of thousands of jobs throughout the state.  Tourism also contributes to Montana's $3 billion outdoor recreation industry.

“Strengthening our tourism industry means more support for Montana’s schools and communities and more money in the pockets of Montana workers,” Tester said.  “I will back any effort that brings good-paying jobs to Montana and that showcases all that the Big Sky State has to offer.”

A lack of targeted advertising and a shortage of flights between Montana and major U.S. cities have presented challenges in the past.

Tester recently pushed for increased air service between Bozeman and the New York City area.

Tester is also chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus.  His provision to strengthen public access for hunting and fishing – both popular activities for Montana’s visitors – recently passed the Senate.
