Tester on offshoring bill: ‘it wasn’t paid for’

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –  U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after voting against the Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act:

“One of the most important things we can do to rebuild our economy and create jobs is to jumpstart our manufacturing base and keep American jobs in America—I’ve said that for years.  Losing American jobs overseas was one of the reasons I was the only Senate Democrat to vote against the bailouts of Wall Street and of the U.S. auto industry.  I hope my grandkids will know what it means to see a label that says ‘Made in America’—and know the pride and craftsmanship that comes with it.

“But I could not vote for this particular bill for a pretty basic reason: it wasn’t paid for.  We can—and we should—reinvigorate our manufacturing industries without adding another $700 million to our debt.  I look forward to working to find other fiscally responsible opportunities to accomplish what this bill would have accomplished without putting the financial burden on our kids and grandkids.”
