Tester statement on achievement of top Montana Guardsman

(BIG SANDY, Mont.) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement in honor of Sgt. Ryan Brubaker of Plains, Mont., being named 2009 Non-commissioned Officer of the Year for the entire National Guard:

“Montanans are rightfully proud of the strength and dedication of our National Guard.  Today, we can be especially proud of the high bar set by Sgt. Brubaker.  His achievement is a testament to Montana hard work and determination.  On behalf of all Montanans, I congratulate Sgt. Brubaker on this extraordinary honor.”

Brubaker competed against 13 other soldiers from across the country in a grueling two-day fitness, marksmanship and military knowledge competition.

Brubaker has been deployed to Iraq twice.

He currently lives in Plains and is pursuing a degree in forestry at the University of Montana in Missoula.
