Tester Praises Havre Border Patrol Agents on 85th Anniversary

Senator Joins Dedication of New USBP Station

(HAVRE, MT) – Attending the dedication of the new U.S. Border Patrol Station, Senator Jon Tester praised the men and women of the Border Patrol for their vital role in protecting U.S. national security and promoting international commerce and Montana jobs.  The dedication took place as part of the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the U.S. Border Patrol. 

“From dealing with rumrunners 85 years ago to watching for drugs, illegal aliens and potential terrorists today, the men and women of the Border Patrol have always been at the forefront of keeping our nation secure,” said Tester, a member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee and the influential Senate Appropriations Committee.  “This new state-of-the-art facility will help protect our national security, bolster trade with Canada and promote good-paying jobs here in Montana.”

The new facility is a 3,000 square foot building with a 16,000 square foot garage area.  The approximate construction cost was $11.6 million, and it is a 50-person, 3-canine station.   It was built by Northern Border Development, LLC and leased to the federal government through the General Services Administration.  Tester has made infrastructure investment a focus of his efforts to grow Montana’s economy and produce good jobs while improving essential services to Montana’s citizens.

“Smart investment in infrastructure upgrades like this just make common sense,” Tester continued.  “I’m particularly pleased that local contractors performed the work on this project that will be a mainstay for Havre and the Hi-Line for years to come.”

Tester also noted the proficiency of the Montana contractor that constructed the facility.  The project was completed on budget and seven months early.
