Baucus, Tester announce $415,000 for UM research

Jobs Bill Dollars Will Help Fund Bio Research Projects

(Washington D.C.) Montana’s senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester today announced more than $415,000 from the federal stimulus bill is headed to the University of Montana to fund ongoing biomedical research at the school.

Baucus and Tester helped write and voted for the stimulus plan- which they call the Jobs Bill-earlier this year. Projects will receive the funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“This grant is great news. I’m committed to ensuring Montanans have access to the best education around,” Baucus said. “This is about keeping Montana on the cutting edge of scientific research, so we can create good paying jobs and lead the way to a brighter future.”

“This funding is a sound investment in Montana’s students,” said Tester. “This grant will boost research projects and help our students and universities stay on top. This kind of stimulus money is exactly why I voted for the Jobs Bill.”

The funding will be used to further biomedical research at the University of Montana. The three projects that will see the dollars focus on neurobiology, environmental health, and biomolecular structure.
