Baucus, Tester announce nearly $500,000 for Dawson County

Money will provide legal help to victims of domestic and sexual violence

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Dawson County will receive $450,000 to provide
legal help to victims of domestic and sexual violence, thanks to a grant
announced today by Senators Max Baucus and
Jon Tester.

The $450,000 grant will go to the Dawson County Domestic
Violence Program, which provides legal assistance to victims of domestic
violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking in Dawson County and neighboring
counties.

The grant will fund two full-time attorneys, a full-time
victims’ advocate, and a part-time administrative
assistant.

“All Montanans deserve to live in safe communities,”
Baucus said.  “And all crime victims deserve justice.  These dollars do a lot of
good for all of eastern Montana and I’m proud to announce this
exciting news.”

“This is good an investment in rural America that will make eastern Montana a better place to
live and raise a family,” Tester said.  “This grant will offer victims of
domestic and sexual violence help when they need it
most.”

The $450,000 grant will be awarded through the U.S.
Department of Justice.  The money was made available through the Violence Against Women Act of
2000.
