Tester Introduces Montana’s Anthony Johnstone at Judicial Nomination Hearing for Ninth Circuit

Senator: “Mr. Johnstone has a proven track record of standing up for our Constitution and applying the law without any personal bias”

Continuing his fight to make sure the federal judiciary system is composed of well qualified individuals who respect the Constitution and the rule of law, U.S. Senator Jon Tester today introduced Montana’s Anthony Johnstone at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Johnstone’s nomination to a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

“Anthony Johnstone hails from my home state of Montana, where he has served the people to the highest possible standard,” Tester told the Committee. “Mr. Johnstone has a proven track record of standing up for our Constitution and applying the law without any personal bias. I have complete confidence that he will be a fair and impartial judge.”

Tester continued: “He also enjoys broad support from two former Montana Attorneys General, Steve Bullock and Tim Fox; six former Montana Supreme Court Justices; Indian Country, including the Tribes of Fort Belknap, Fort Peck, Rocky Boy, Blackfeet, and the Little Shell; and countless lawyers from across Montana and across the political spectrum.”

Johnstone began his legal career by serving as a law clerk for Judge Sidney Thomas on the Ninth Circuit. He went on to serve as the State Solicitor and Assistant Attorney General at the Montana Department of Justice, and for more than a decade, he has taught at the University of Montana’s Alexander Blewett III School of Law.
