Bill would reveal dark money donors

Sen. Jon Tester introduced a bill Tuesday to reveal the major donors who fund secret groups that seek to influence elections.

His bill will make public “Schedule B” on the Internal Revenue System’s form 990s. That schedule, currently confidential, lists the donors to independent political organizations known as 501(c)(4) claiming tax-exempt status.

Tester said the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision allowed these groups to raise and spend tens of millions of dollars in campaigns without voters knowing who their donors are.
