Tester congratulates Marine of the Year

Churchill Marine awarded top honor by service organization

(U.S. SENATE) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after congratulating Sergeant Lucas Chaffins of Churchill, Mont., on receiving the Marine of the Year award from the United Service Organizations Inc. (USO):

“Sergeant Chaffins represents the very best of Montana, our nation, and our military. His courage under fire, his bravery and his heroism led directly to the safe return of his fellow Marines from their deployment in Afghanistan. Sharla and I are proud to congratulate Sgt. Chaffins on this well-deserved honor and wish him the very best as we welcome him home to Montana. And we join all Montanans in saying to him and his family, ‘thank you.’”

Chaffins acted as his platoon’s primary Machine Gunner during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Each year, the USO recognizes the Service Member of the Year from each branch of the military.
