Tester to try his hand at sports broadcasting… at least for a few innings

Senator will provide color commentary during tonight’s Mariners-Orioles game in Baltimore

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Montanans who tune in to watch America’s pastime tonight may hear a familiar voice on TV.

U.S. Senator Jon Tester will provide color commentary during tonight’s broadcast of the game between the Seattle Mariners and the Baltimore Orioles—at least for a few innings.  Tester plans to join broadcasters Dave Sims and Mike Blowers at the bottom the fourth inning.

Tonight’s game, at Baltimore’s Camden Yards, is scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m. Montana time.  The game will air in Montana on Fox Sports Northwest.  Availability of the channel in Montana depends on cable or satellite service.

Tester and his family have long been fans of the Seattle Mariners—the closest Major League Baseball team to Tester’s hometown of Big Sandy, Montana.

“If you’re from north-central Montana, there’s a pretty good chance you’re a Mariners fan,” said Tester, a third-generation farmer.  “I’ve spent countless hours listening to these games on the radio in my tractor over the years.  Now I have the honor of being a part of one.”

Tester said he hoped to watch catcher Rob Johnson, a Butte native who has played for the Seattle Mariners since 2007.  However, Johnson is not expected to play tonight due to a bruised foot.
