Tester statement on evacuation of Central Asia Institute employees

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement in response to news that two employees of the Bozeman-based non-profit Central Asia Institute were safely evacuated from the city of Khorog in Tajikistan, which borders Afghanistan.  Tester worked with the U.S. State Department to secure safe passage for the two Montanans.  His staff contacted the State Department to request support and relayed critical information between it and the Central Asia Institute:

“Any Montanans who put themselves in harm's way in order to make our world a better place deserve whatever it takes to ensure their safe return home.  Sharla's and my thoughts and prayers are with Karin and Erik, and I'll continue doing whatever I can until they're home safe."

Karin Ronnow of Livingston and Erik Petersen of Gardiner became stranded in Khorog when violence broke out across the country.
