Tester praises House for passing his Amtrak amendment

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after the U.S. House included his amendment in its Amtrak Reauthorization Bill.  Tester’s amendment requires Amtrak to study the feasibility of restoring its North Coast Hiawatha route, which followed I-94 and I-90 from Glendive to Missoula, as long as the service doesn’t interfere with existing Empire Builder service along the Hi-Line.

“The House did the right thing by including my amendment in this measure, and I look forward to passing the final bill through the Senate.  Amtrak is already an important option for Montanans and their communities.  And with fuel prices going through the roof, we need all options on the table.”

Amtrak discontinued the North Coast Hiawatha route in 1979.
