Tester: Lautenberg ‘a man of principle’

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement after the death of long-time New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg:

“Frank was a man of principle who let you know that you’d have to work hard to win his vote in the Senate. That’s the way it should be, and Frank’s devotion to consumer safety improved the quality of life for countless Americans. Sharla and I will keep Frank’s family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Lautenberg represented New Jersey in the U.S. Senate for nearly all of the past 30 years. One of his many legislative achievements was successfully banning smoking on most domestic airline flights.

The last remaining World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Senate, Lautenberg served in the Army Signal Corps in Europe during the war. Following the war, he attended Columbia University on the G.I. Bill.
