Tester Announces Nearly $2 Million for Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport

Senator's #ConnectMT Plan Supports Job Creation and Tourism by Strengthening Local Airports

(U.S. Senate) – U.S. Senator Jon Tester announced today, as part of his #ConnectMT plan, that the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport will receive nearly $2 million to fix and upgrade its facilities so it can continue to support the growing economy in the Gallatin Valley.

“Montana is called Big Sky Country for a reason,” Tester said. “We’ve got a lot of sky to fly through to get from one place to the next. That’s why our airports are such an important part of our state’s infrastructure, they’re one of the primary ways we connect our state to new markets and support Montana’s thriving tourism economy.”

“Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport continues to see record growth like much of southwest Montana,” said Brian Sprenger, Director of Bozeman Yellowstone International. “And this timely Airport Improvement Grant helps us keep up with the infrastructure needs of our growing airport and community.”

Specifically, this funding will go toward rehabilitating one of the airport’s taxiways.

The grant was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which provides funding to improve and expand air travel infrastructure across the country. In fact, 32 Montana airports received more than $47 million in AIP funding last year. The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport received $3.5 million of that to improve safety and visibility for both passengers and pilots on its runway.

Tester also recently secured new state-of-the-art screening equipment for airports in Great Falls and Helena. These efforts are all a part of Tester’s #ConnectMT initiative, which seeks to connect families, visitors, and businesses throughout Big Sky Country by improving, expanding and investing in Montana’s digital and physical infrastructure.
