Tester Congratulates Havre’s Cameron Pleninger on Acceptance to Merchant Marine Academy

Senator nominated class of 2024 students for Army, Navy, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies

U.S. Senator Jon Tester congratulated Havre-area high school student Cameron Pleninger today on his appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Cameron is a varsity cross country, wrestling, and track athlete at Havre High School. He was also accepted to the United States Coast Guard Academy’s AIM Program in 2019, worked as a ranch hand for La Salle Ranch and Hinebauch Grain, Inc., and received Superior Ratings at the Regional Montana Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ (MCTM) Math Contest.

“Cameron has already proven himself to be among our state’s best and brightest, and I have no doubt that he will continue to make Montana proud serving his country,” said Tester. “I look forward to following his continued success, and wish him the best of luck as he prepares for the next step in his journey.”

Tester nominated Cameron in December based on his academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and commitment to serving and leading in the United States military. A nomination from a member of Congress is the first step in students’ applications to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
