Tester Secures $7.5 Million for Veterans and Family Courts, Drug Treatment and Prevention

Senator: “These funds will provide folks from Missoula to Northern Cheyenne with resources to get back on their feet”

U.S. Senator Jon Tester today announced $7,557,781 million in Department of Justice grants for drug treatment and prevention programs as well as treatment courts across Montana to help support victims of crime and folks struggling with addiction.

“The simple fact is that we have to do more to support all Montanans who are struggling with addiction or who have become involved in the criminal justice system,” said Tester. “These funds will provide folks from Missoula to Northern Cheyenne with resources to get back on their feet, and I’ll keep fighting in Washington to make sure these programs continue to receive the investments they need to succeed”

Tester secured investments in the following programs:

Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-Based Programs
• City of Billings: $900,000
• Lewis & Clark County: $600,000

Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Programs
• Judiciary Courts Of The State Of Montana: $1,352,572
• Missoula County: $403,039
• Cascade County’s 8th District Court: $498,105
• Chippewa Cree Tribe (Rocky Boy): $434,332
• The City And County Of Butte-Silver Bow: $498,450
• Northern Cheyenne Tribe: $484,314

Tribal Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Program
• Chippewa Cree Tribe (Rocky Boy): $600,000

Family Drug Court Program
• Judiciary Courts Of The State Of Montana: $614,453

Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) for State Prisoners Program
• Montana Board of Crime Control: $172,516

Delinquency Prevention Program
• Board of Crime Control: $1,000,000

Senator Tester is a longtime champion of treatment courts. President Trump signed his Veterans Treatment Court Improvement Act in 2018, allowing for the hiring of 50 additional Veterans Justice Outreach Specialists across the nation to work with Veterans Treatment Courts and help provide timely access to VA services.
