Tester Congratulates Big Sky’s Beckett Johnson on Acceptance to West Point

Senator nominated Johnson and 23 other Montanans for Army, Navy, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies

U.S. Senator Jon Tester recently congratulated Big Sky’s Beckett Johnson on his appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Beckett is a student at Lone Peak High School, co-president of his chapter of National Honor Society, a mentor at Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a varsity soccer athlete. He served as the party chairman at Boys State in 2023 and earned awards at the State Bar of Montana Mock Trial Competition and American Legion Oratory Contest.

“Montanans have a long and proud history of serving in our armed services, and it’s an honor to help our state’s best and brightest students continue that legacy at our military service academies,” said Tester. “Beckett is an outstanding leader inside and outside the classroom, and I look forward to seeing him continue to make our state proud by serving our country.”

Tester nominated Johnson—along with 23 other Montanans—in December based on their academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and dedication to serving and leading in the United States military. A nomination from a member of Congress is a student’s first step in applying to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
